Objectives:
ThepurposeofthisstudywastoinvestigatetheeffectsofYanghyuljanggeungunbo-tang(Yangxuezhuangjinjianbu-tang,YGKT)andelectricalacupuncture treatmentinspinalcordinjury(SCI)-inducedrats.
Methods:
Thesubjectsweredividedinto5groups;Normal,Control-notreatmentafterSCI,Experimental¥°(Exp.¥°)-takenwithYGKT500§·/§¸ 0.5§¢ daily afterSCI.Experimental¥±(Exp.¥±)-takenwithelectricalacupunctureafterSCIandExperimental¥²(Exp.¥²)-takenwithYGKT500§·/§¸ 0.5§¢ and electricalacupunctureafterSCI.Aftereachoperation,thepresentauthorobservedcytologicalchanges,themotorbehaviorrecoveryandnerve regenerationbyanalysisofthemotorbehaviortests,EMG,hematological (AST,ALT,WBC),histologicalandimmunologicalchanges.Ratsweretested byMotorbehaviortestat1st,3rd,7th,14thand21stday.
Results:
1.AlltheexperimentalgroupswereimprovedcomparedwithcontrolgroupinthemotorbehaviortestsincludingTarlovtest,Basso-Beattle-Bresnahan locomotorratingscale,modifiedinclinedplanetest,openfieldtest,gridwalktestandnarrow beam test.EspeciallyExp.¥² wassignificantly improvedamongothergroups.
2.InEMGtest,HandM waveweresignificantlyincreasedinExp.¥².
3.AlltheexperimentalgroupsweresignificantlydecreasedcomparedwithcontrolgroupinAST,ALTandWBC.
4.NGF,BDNFandTrkBofspinalcordgraymatterinalltheexperimentalgroupswereincreasedcomparedwithcontrolgroup.Especially,Exp.¥² wasmoreeffective.
5.Inhistologicalobservations,musclecontractionanddenaturationofgastrocnemiusmuscleofalltheexperimentalgroupswereinhibited.Especially,thoseofExp.¥² wasmoreeffective.Ontheobservationsofliverandkidney,cellatrophyandapoptosisofalltheexperimentalgroupswere
decreasedcomparedwithcontrolgroup.Especially,thoseofExp.¥² wasmoreeffective.
Conclusions:
ItcanbesuggestedthatYGKTandelectricalacupuncturemayimprovemotorbehavior,EMG,hematological,histologicalandimmunologicalfindingsin SCI- inducedrats.Especially,combinationofthesetwotreatmentswillbesomewhatbetterinspinalnerverecoveryandmotorfunctionimprovement.
